Last night we were at Fenway and it just happened to be the record-breaking game for most consecutive sell-outs. It was a total coincidence that we were there, as we bought the tickets back in December when no one was interested in seeing Tampa Bay play. The ownership turned the milestone into a pretty big deal. They handed out enlarged, laminated tickets to commemorate the event, the players threw autographed balls into the stands before the game started, they played some special messages from the players on the jumbo tron throughout the game, and they recognized the longest-holding season ticket holder (since 1935), along with a bunch of kids born on the day the streak began (sometime in May 2003). I also got to see my second husband (Lou Merloni) up-close when NESN was filming its pre-game show out on Yawkey Way. Most importantly, the Red Sox won the game and are now only 1/2 game back in the A.L. East. We need them to sustain this because football is pretty much a major disappointment now...

Funny side story - We were sitting in the centerfield bleachers, four rows up. There were a couple girls from Southie a few rows behind us. They must have started pre-gaming pretty early, because they were half in the bag by the time the game started. We enjoyed listening to their thick Boston accents at first (lobstah dinnah, engineeee-ah), but that got old quickly. Every so often, one of them would yell out, "Jacoby, Wooooo!!!!!" The first time this happened, Dave leaned over and said, "Jacoby's not even playing." After a few innings, when she yelled it again, a guy across the aisle from us turned around and said to her, "Jacoby's not even playing." She replied, "Yeah, right there, number 10." He told her that was Coco Crisp. She then got up, and while saying, "Oh yeah, I should know that," turned around to display her Crisp (#10) jersey.
Apparently with his recent haircut and all the beer, she just wasn't seeing straight. Needless to say, we laughed about that for the rest of the game.
