After several months of anticipation, the weekend full of surprises came and went. My mother will turn 60 this Saturday, but we celebrated a week early. She insisted she didn't want a party, but my father began planning a great surprise back in December. He rented a suite at Fenway Park, as mom is such a die hard Red Sox fan, and we invited her family and closest friends to join in on the fun. Four of her eight siblings were in attendance, two having flown across the country. Somehow my father convinced her to cut her weekend in Maine short to go down to Boston for Monday night's game, even after she declined the offer weeks before and insisted she would stay in Maine until Tuesday (this had all of us in on the surprise slightly concerned and wondering how it was all going to unfold!). She seemed genuinely shocked when she arrived, encountering us all unexpectedly. It was a "wicked" fun night, and the Sox won. My brother Brian even arranged a Happy Birthday message on the jumbo tron in the middle of the 5th inning. You can't ask for more than that. Happy 60th Mima!
