We've had somewhat of a family crisis this past week, learning that our wonderful, loveable, totally fabulous 5 year old kitty Dewey is suffering from what appears to be feline lymphoma. We attributed his poor appetite and weight loss to recurring tooth problems that he's had, and hoped that he would be back to his normal self after his oral surgery last week. That didn't happen, and upon further investigation with an x-ray and ultrasound, evidence of cancer was found in his lymph nodes, lungs, liver, kidneys and abdomen. It looks like our little guy has been sick for some time, but cats apparently are very good at masking their illnesses until the end. We opted not to go the route of aggressive treatment (chemotherapy), as it seems like for the price you pay, you can't buy significantly more time. We started Dewey on a round of steroids and we'll see how he responds. At best, we're looking at a few months. We just hope to bring back a little of his awesome personality to have a few more memories. Millie has been adjusting pretty well. Dewey hasn't been much into playing for at least the last month, so she is seeking much more attention from us humans. This has all just made us appreciate how great our four-member family is!
