Look Who's Talking

Wilson has, out of the blue, started babbling a whole lot more lately. It is so cute to watch and listen to him talk. Sometimes he warms up his mouth by opening and closing it, without making any noise. We call this his fish face. He's stringing all sorts of sounds together. Our favorite is huh-gee (like huggy) and he even said da-da yesterday! That last one took awhile, as he preferred ah-da, ba-da, and ba-ba more. Wilson has become very good at giving hugs and standing with support. He has loved all his orange veggies so far (carrots, sweet potatoes and squash) and just tried applesauce last night. I think it may have been a little too tart for him (we bought a big jar of the unsweetened kind instead of making it like we'd done for the veggies), and he just wrinkled his little face up and pursed his lips together. He kept opening his mouth for more, but each bite was met with the same reaction. Wilson has also become a great sleeper again! He is going 10 to 12 hours every night. We cut out his swaddling, night feedings and pacifiers all in one shot after his six-month check-up last week, and he adjusted marvelously. He's up to 17 pounds and 26 inches. He rolls very well from back to tummy, but can't get off his tummy, and he doesn't like being on his tummy, making it ironic that he self-imposes tummy-time. He pulls his knees up like he's trying to crawl, but doesn't go anywhere. He'll figure it out eventually. Wilson has recently earned a new nickname - The Claw. He reaches for and grabs at EVERYTHING! Sometimes, while sitting on his mat, he'll reach so far forward that he'll fall onto his stomach, but he gets what he was going for and doesn't fuss. He is so persistent and gets very frustrated if he can't reach what he wants. It's funny to see him go after something with both hands, like ice cream cones and glasses of water. Dave and I are trying to be more cautious about eating in front of him lately, since he's so interested in food and gets upset if he's not eating at the same time!

Our week started off really busy with a visit from Grandma and Pop, and then a playdate with a new friend yesterday. We're having dinner guests tonight and then thinking of checking out an outdoor children's concert tomorrow, depending on the weather. Since it's raining (again!) it looks like today will be a library day. It's sad to think our summer is almost half over. Hopefully time slows down!
